Feasibility and pilot studies are important first steps leading to larger implementation trials. They can help to clarify trial design and methods, act as test-runs for strategies, and identify causes. This paper guides implementation researchers through the aims, methods, design, measures, progression criteria and reporting for feasibility and pilot studies. The aim is to improve the quality of implementation trials and provide a first step towards more standardised guidelines.
